The Danish Green Investment Fund (Danmarks Grønne Investeringsfond) is a state loan fund dedicated to providing co-financing for projects that contribute to the sustainable development of Danish society and industries within environmental savings, renewable energy sources or resource efficiency.

The fund was established in 2014 and from January 2023 became part of Denmark’s Export and Investment Fund.

The purpose of the Fund is to provide co-financing to projects that cover one of the five following areas::

  • Energy and Supply: Projects implementing technology for supply and storage of renewable energies and Power-to-X etc.
  • Food and Agriculture: Delivering solutions to reduce food waste, creating sustainable food production and distribution, and alternative food sources.
  • Buildings and Infrastructure: Rethinking metropolitan construction with green building materials, cooling technologies, smart buildings, and renovation.
  • Materials and Resources: Upcycling of waste, creating alternative polymers and composites, inventing alternatives for burning resources, and new ways of recycling
  • Transport and Mobility: Green solutions to solve challenges in the fields of aviation, micro-mobility, shipping and maritime mobility, as well as land transport.

The projects previously funded by the fund are diverse, ranging over several themes and industries. Loans are granted to private as well as public companies and institutions in all sectors and industries, that wish to work towards implementing green solutions.

Commercial Opportunities

To apply for a loan at Danmarks Grønne Investeringsfond, the technology must present a verified commercial potential. In consultation between the company or institution and the fund itself, the commercial and green aspects of the project’s will be evaluated.

Funding Opportunities

Loans of up to 60% of the total project expenditure can be procured, with loan amounts between 2 to 400 million DKK. Projects may have a duration of up to 30 years.

Activity Type

Support for innovation of green technologies, including novel applications of known technologies.

Requirements

To be eligible for a loan at Danmarks Grønne Investeringsfond, the project must:

  1. Contribute to the sustainable development of Danish society and produce a measurable green effect, for instance, in the form of a reduced carbon emission or usage of resources.
  2. Be economically viable.

Projects are evaluated based on the four funding criteria: green effect, healthy economy, scalability, and socioeconomic return.
