The EU programme, Initial Training Networks (ITN), aims to improve career perspectives of researchers in both public and private sectors. Universities, research institutes and enterprises can apply for the funding of high quality doctoral training programmes in international networks on the basis of a common research project. The ITN is divided in 3 sub-programmes: Multi-partners ITN, Innovative Doctoral Program (IDP) and The European Industrial Doctorates (EID). For the January deadline, the ITN received 1022 proposals, of which 631 were above threshold and only 130 were funded – in other words an overall success rate of 12,7%.
Innovayt has developed a very successful methodology for ensuring a high success rate for clients, which submit proposals for the ITN programmes. For the most recent deadline, Innovayt assisted with the writing and development of 6 proposals to the EU’s ITN programme: 2 EID (1 funded and ranked 4 among all EID proposals); 1 IDP (funded); 3 Multi-ITN (1 funded). 3 out of the 6 proposals were funded - a success rate of 50% and thus far ahead of the average for this extremely competitive programme. The 3 funded projects represent a total of 32 PhDs and around 60-65 million DKK in direct funding to the partners involved. With 100% funding of the costs, the ITN programmes are very attractive to both universities and companies across Europe.
