Horizon 2020 gives grant for the development of a new blade agnostic LPS product

The successful cooperation between Innovayt and Global Lightning Protection Services (GLP) has so far resulted in three funded proposals: one under the Marie Curie Programme (EID), one under the Danish EUDP programme and, now, a third one under the Horizon 2020 SME instrument.

The Opti-LPS project’s main objective is to develop an innovative blade agnostic lightning protection system (LPS), increasing significantly the protection efficiency (interception and lightning current conduction), lowering the costs of the LPS system, and greatly simplifying the installations and logistics compared to recent solutions seen at many manufacturers. The consequence is a reduction of LPS development and wind turbine servicing costs that ultimately increase the economic feasibility of offshore wind turbines.

Michael Ariel Nielsen, Chief Sales Officer of GLP, states: “Innovayt have assisted Global Lightning Protection Services by guiding three applications from the first initiative to the final submission. All three processes have worked excellent, the employees of Innovayt are very skilled and dedicated to explain our story in the context given, and we will definitely involve Innovayt next time”.
