Grand Solutions 2026: Defence Technology and Innovation Call

Denmark is accelerating investment in defence technology and innovation. With the Grand Solutions 2026 – Defence Technology and Innovation call, Danish and European organisations have a significant opportunity to develop technologies that support operational defence needs while strengthening Denmark’s position in the international technology landscape.

The call has a minimum total budget of 105 MDKK, with individual project grants expected to range from 5 MDKK to 30 MDKK. The application deadline is 1 September 2026 (12 pm CET time).

A national investment in defence and dual-use technology

The Grand Solutions 2026 defence technology and innovation call should be seen in the broader context of increasing European defence funding, including programmes such as the EDF (European Defence Fund). At the same time, it represents a targeted Danish investment in defence, security and dual-use technology development.

The call is designed to support technologies that can address the operational needs of the Danish Armed Forces, while reinforcing Denmark’s role in the international technological landscape.

For companies, research organisations and public-sector actors working with defence-related innovation, this creates a timely opportunity to position strong project ideas within both national and European strategic priorities.

Key details of the Grand Solutions 2026 defence technology call

This funding opportunity is structured as a single-phase application process, with projects assessed according to three main decision criteria:

  • Quality of idea
  • Impact and
  • Quality of execution.

Applications will be assessed by the Committee for Advanced & Critical Technologies.

Relevant technology areas

The call highlights several relevant focus areas, while also leaving room for strong proposals outside these categories. Priority areas but not limited to include:

  • Protection, surveillance and deterrence systems
  • Command and control solutions
  • Cyber security
  • Resilience
  • Unmanned systems
  • Maritime solutions
  • Critical infrastructure
  • Sensor technologies

These areas reflect the growing need for advanced, scalable and mission-relevant technologies that can contribute to defence readiness and societal resilience.

Strong consortia will be essential

For this type of funding, a strong proposal is not only about the technology. It is also about building the right consortium.

The strongest projects are likely to bring together industry, research organisations and public authorities. This cross-sector collaboration is key to connecting real defence needs with research excellence, innovation capacity and implementation potential.

Successful consortia should be able to demonstrate a clear use case, a credible route to impact and a strong understanding of how the proposed technology aligns with both Danish and European defence ambitions.

Now is the time to prepare

Although the deadline is in September 2026, organisations considering an application should begin preparing early. Building a competitive consortium, refining the use case and aligning the project with national and EU priorities takes time.
