EUDP Funds Next Generation Lightning Test System for Wind Turbines


The ELITE project aims at developing a new system to test lightning effects on large wind turbine components, namely full size nacelles, hubs and blades. The project expands Danish-based test facilities, creating strong benefits to manufacturers of large wind turbines components and to wind farm owners/operators. The objective of the ELITE project is to develop and demonstrate a next generation lightning test system capable of handling high-performance tests of full size wind turbine components – including 5-10 MW nacelles and 60-100 m long blades for the offshore sector.

The project was initiated by a specialized SME – Global Lightning Protection Services (GLPS) – which will work alongside DTU Elektro in developing the next generation test equipment.

Innovayt assisted the consortium with the writing and development of the proposal, which was retained for funding by the Danish Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program (EUDP).
