AKV Langholt AmbA Secures Grant for Innovative Separation Process

AKV Langholt AmbA has engaged Innovayt to prepare a proposal to the Danish programme GUDP (Green Development and Demonstration Programme). The InnoPro project has a total budget of DKK 14 million and will receive a grant of DKK 4.3 million from the GUDP.

The overall objective of the InnoPro project is to develop and demonstrate an innovative separation process to extract functional potato proteins from potato juice – a by-product from the production of potato starch. The concept is directly addressing major competitive challenges which currently are threatening the Danish potato industry and at the same time meets the growing consumer demand for vegetable “clean” products without unwanted additives and allergens. The most significant element in the InnoPro project is based on rethinking the traditional process steps for protein extraction and is composed through an optimisation of clean and environmental friendly process technologies – enabling extraction of potato protein which not previously has been possible.

Niels Eriksen, Managing Director at AKV, is very pleased with the grant and states “The project is a joint initiative which will benefit the entire Danish potato industry. After project completion the InnoPro-concept will scaled up through a company which will manage the production of potato protein. The new company will be jointly owned by the four Danish potato plants, and thus also the Danish potato farmers. We are very pleased with Innovayt’s overall performance and help towards reaching this important objective.”
