Horizon 2020 - Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions

The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) under Horizon 2020 have the objective of attracting and supporting the best researchers in Europe through support to their mobility and employment in companies and knowledge institutions.
Marie Curie

Companies and individuals can apply for funding under MSCA within all themes and industries. The programme focuses on participation from companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The programme supports all aspects of a researcher’s career during periods of mobility, training etc.

The programme consists of a number of individual actions, including:

  • Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE): Support for knowledge-sharing between companies and universities through staff exchanges, etc.
  • Innovative Training Networks (ITN): International research training programmes with participation from both universities and companies.
  • European Industrial Doctorates (EID): Support for European Industrial PhD’s.
  • Individual Fellowships (IF): support for transnational recruitment of researchers.
Commercial opportunities

The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions provide an opportunity for companies to co-finance whole or parts of their development projects, in particular where these can be implemented through human resources, e.g. through secondments (in- or outgoing), researcher training, or recruitment. In addition, the programme allows companies to grow their knowledge base through partnerships, researcher mobility, and education.

The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions fund 100 percent of project costs.

Type of activities: R&D, staff exchange, research training

Requirements

Usually, MSCA requires an element of transnational co-operation across European boarders, e.g. between a company and a university or a researcher. Requirements for participation vary between different MSCA sub-programmes
